Victorian Blackamoor Earrings with Coral & Garnet
A beautiful quality pair of Blackamoor earrings from the Victorian period, c1870s. This style of jewellery originates in Venice and is very collectible. This pair is particularly beautifully made with a stunning natural coral gem set to the top of each of the turbans and a beautiful almandine garnet to the bottom. The faces here are wearing turbans to represent their princely status and, though much of the black enamel has been lost, the detailed carving on these beautiful faces is certainly evident. A lovely quality pair of earrings made mainly from silver with high carat gold hooks. The hooks are likely later, though excellently done, and have little loop fastenings at the bottom for added security.
