Victorian 18ct Gold Cats Eye Quartz & Rose Diamond Ring
A beautiful ring from the Victorian period, c1870s. The ring is made from solid 18ct gold and has the most beautiful rose cut diamonds forming a halo around a central stone. The centre stone I believe is a cats eye quartz. It is a beautiful domed cabochon stone with a slightly translucent grey tone colour, with an undertone of yellow. The strip of light typical of a cats eye stone, known as the chatoyancy, travels across the dome as the ring moves in artificial light. In natural light, the cats eye effect is not seen. This stone is complimented perfectly by the wonderful glittering rose diamonds that surround it. The rose diamonds are all original and in beautiful condition. Perhaps the top of this ring started life as something else, though it has been transformed, likely in antiquity, with a beautiful quality wide gold shank. The ring is of the utmost quality and looks wonderful on the hand.
