Early Victorian Black Dot Paste Drop Earrings
A beautiful pair of earrings from the early Victorian period, c1840s. The earrings are made from sterling silver and have 9ct gold hooks. They are likely to have be made from Victorian components, though they look beautiful all together and are an excellent match throughout. The large paste drops at the bottom have a wonderful black dot to the centre; a practice during this period to give the paste the look of a large culet similar to the diamonds of the time. These paste stones are lovely and deep and rest in deep closed back settings. The top of the earrings have three pretty small pastes stones set in silver and the gold hook is attached securely here. A truly eye catching pair of earrings that really do look the part.
