SOLD Art Deco Fox Terrier Reverse Intaglio Ring
A pretty ring from the Art Deco period, c1930s. The ring is made from 9ct gold and has a wonderful reverse intaglio as the centre piece. Typically, these reverse painted intaglios are mistakenly called Essex crystals after the enamel painter, William Essex. However, these painted crystals are not by this famous painter and are typically, designs that have been carved into the back of a piece of crystal that has then been painted to create a realistic portrait. This is one such piece. A lovely example of a wire haired fox terrier set into a lovely plain gold frame. The crystal is backed by mother of pearl, and rather unusually, the ring has an open back that displays this. The shank is a simple split shank and the ring is in beautiful condition.
As a note, I would be wary of wearing this ring around water.
