SOLD Antique 18ct Gold Opening Engraved Locket
An absolutely stunning and unusual piece from the late Victorian period, c1880s. The piece is a type of locket in a conical shape and is made from 18ct gold. It likely started life as a sewing needle case for the wealthy lady, though now it would make the ideal case for a little note or a rolled up photo. The outside of the locket is fully engraved with a beautiful, slightly geometric design. There is a plain cartouche to the front that could possibly be engraved with initials, though this would need to be done by a skilled engraver. The lid of the piece has a pretty pink ruby set into it. The ruby has a domed top that is hand faceted. The lid shuts firmly and stays in place well. This is a truly beautiful piece and is exquisite quality. A very unusual and interesting locket to add to any collection.
This locket will come on a 14kt gold fill chain as pictured.
